WELCOME

I create music, films, and interdisciplinary performances designed to endure—artistically, culturally, and in the lives of the people who experience them.
My work begins with a simple belief: art must be of service
.
As an oboist, composer, filmmaker, and arts leader, I create projects that bring together original music, documentary film, visual storytelling, and NeuroArts-informed composition. Working alongside researchers, museums, conservation organizations, healthcare partners, and communities, I develop experiences that invite people to slow down, listen deeply, and see the world with renewed attention.
My compositions and films are created as a single artistic language. Repetition, pacing, and gradual development are woven throughout both the music and the visual narrative using principles of entrainment—an approach that supports lower brainwave activity, reduces stress, and contributes to improved mental and physical health outcomes.
Whether presenting a concert, premiering a documentary, leading a residency, or creating a new commissioned work, every project is built through collaboration.
Lasting partnerships and thoughtful craftsmanship shape each stage of the creative process.
Recent work includes the award-winning documentary Taking Flight: The 8th Wonder of the World, museum commissions, artist residencies, and performances throughout North America and Europe. Together with cellist and looping artist David Downing, I co-founded Bel Canto Duo, an ensemble devoted to creating original performances that unite music, film, and community.
Thank you for visiting.
I invite you to explore the projects, collaborations, and ideas that continue to shape this work.

Dirk Meyer, DSSO Music Director:
“Besides her wonderful musicality and virtuosity, Darci brings a wonderful energy and passion for innovation to our group, as can be seen in this project, which only came to fruition thanks to her efforts.”

"The musicianship, preparedness and timbre of sound were of the highest order. The blend of oboe and English horn with our Steinway was so beautiful and uplifting.”
Gerry Putnam, Producer

"Siegfried Idyll," a symphonic poem... built off the opening melodies. Some of the richness of the sound was dissipated by the acoustic peculiarities of the architecture, but the piece featured excellent solo work by Darci Gamerl on oboe.”
